Softness Is Not A Weakness: Redefining Beauty in This Season Of My Life

The Loss of Softness

Softness begins to fade when you realize you’re being taken advantage of—and you don’t yet have the tools to defend yourself with assertiveness, grace, and self-respect.

When a young teenager girl comes to understand that they are navigating life largely on their own—through unfamiliar environments, social situations, and experiences beyond the protection of their parents—they often develop coping mechanisms rooted in defense. Those defenses can look and sound hard, loud, or sharp.

As a young girl, I struggled to identify with being “meek” because of religious expectations, yet I was also cautioned not to be too “aggressive,” because culturally, a woman is expected to behave within a narrow set of acceptable traits.

And once you enter the workforce, you begin to observe a pattern: women in high—and even mid-level—positions often feel pressured to lead through dominance, sharp criticism, aggression in tone, and emotional distance, because empathy is so often mistaken for weakness.

For years, I believed this hardness was necessary. I didn’t yet understand that softness, when chosen intentionally, could become one of my greatest strengths.

The Season I’m in Now

I recently came to a realization that felt so profound, it made me pause and truly appreciate my own growth. Even when I’m moving through a storm, I’ve learned to remain grateful—not because it’s easy, but because I no longer see it as a burden. I see it as a lesson.

There is a softness in discernment. Knowing when to act—and when not to react to everything around you—is a form of emotional intelligence I had to grow into.

Another thing I’ve unlearned, especially through my business, is the need to constantly prioritize productivity over myself. I’ve learned to make space for rest without guilt. Because the truth is—rest is productive. What human is meant to function nonstop like a machine without a reset? Not one. Not even a machine can operate that way without eventually breaking down.

I’ve come to understand that you reclaim your essence and your power when you rest with intention.

I’ve also taken inventory of how I engage with the world now. I no longer crave validation or recognition the way I once did. There was a time when I constantly questioned: Do they like me? Will they appreciate what I contribute? If I don’t receive acknowledgment, am I still enough?

And while that version of me was simply navigating the best way she knew how—it no longer aligns with who I am today.

There is a calm that settles in your body when you release the need to be validated. A peace that comes from knowing your value without needing it to be echoed back to you.

When you understand that, alignment becomes easier. Attraction becomes natural.

I now choose confidence. I choose to show up fully as myself and feel safe in knowing that who I am is enough.

Because softness, to me, is confidence—without the performance. And once I understood that, I began to see beauty differently—not just in how I looked, but in how I showed up.

Beauty Beyond Appearance

These days, my ideals around beauty have shifted—from focusing on outward appearance to honoring the inner beauty that shines beyond all illusions.

Beauty, to me now, is who you are when no one is around to witness it. It’s the ability to sit with yourself and feel at peace in your own presence, fully accepting your emotions without the need to escape them.

It’s being unfazed by whether the world understands your quirks or embraces the unique parts of you. It’s approaching challenges with curiosity instead of fear, and choosing love—even in moments that once would have hardened you.

It’s gratitude for where you are, even as you grow into who you’re becoming.

It’s being kind to yourself and operating from a place of overflow—where your cup is so full that you naturally pour into everything and everyone around you, without depletion. Because you’ve learned how to maintain your joy.

It looks like loving your body for all that it has carried you through—honoring it, not just for how it appears, but for how it sustains you.

And now, when people enter my presence, I don’t feel the need to say much. There’s a glow—one that transcends appearance.

Because people can feel when you’ve been doing the work. The fruit of that labor speaks for itself.

And results like that…can’t be denied.

When you begin to understand beauty this way, you naturally become more selective—with your energy, your time, and who has access to you.
